Thanks! Yeah that's exactly the kind of difficulty I was running into before I devised the "tangential" category. There was a year (2015? 2016, maybe) where I read a bunch of books with casually queer important secondary characters, and I was like "This feels substantially different and more inclusive than reading a book where queerness never comes up at all, but it also feels really different than reading a book that centers queerness... hm." Like I say in the post, the whole thing remains a pretty subjective call, but I find the intermediate classification pretty useful.
