Yes, I do feel it was to my advantage that in both of the lit-mags I currently keep up with (and Lambda Literary I would say isn't even a full-fledged mag, more of a newsletter) I had very specific goals as far as how I wanted to shift my reading. It definitely helped to narrow a field which could otherwise be pretty overwhelming!
