Kind of can't believe

That I forgot to mention that over the weekend greywash and I watched Sally Potter's film The Party, a piece of media I believe was produced specifically to hook to my id and delight me immoderately for 70 densely-packed minutes of the prickly, farcical, intensely awkward dinner party from hell. LIFE GOALS: write a dinner party as terrible as this dinner party.

omg! I keep meaning to watch this and it keeps escaping me. I did not read past the spoiler cut, but I am pleased to know you enjoyed and will hopefully manage to move this higher up my to-watch list!

I mean I feel like I'm hardly an unbiased source, since to say that it played to my narrative kinks would be to VASTLY understate the matter. But. FWIW, I enjoyed every second of it.

LOL I mean, like I was saying to tellitslant, I feel weird pretending that I can give any kind of unbiased review, because it was basically hand-crafted to appeal to my personal narrative kinks. But if you, too, enjoy terrible dinner parties, lesbians who are ambivalent about children, ambitious women in decades-long friendships reconnecting while locked in a toilet, Patricia Clarkson being a total gorgeous bitch, coked-up train wreck Cillian Murphy, and... Kristin Scott Thomas being Kristin Scott Thomas, then yes, absolutely, watch it post-haste.

I thought this was about The Party (1968) and got so excited! because that's one of my favorite films in the world, one of the rare bits of comedy that work for me. But the director name rather tipped me off ... eventually; also "id" and "densely packed" as that The Party is just comedy improv within setpieces. I'm sure this film is also great, but now I sort of wish I could rewatch that other one.

LOL oh no! That's always disappointing when a potential moment of communion turns out to be about a different thing. I'll have to check out the older Party some time!
