Two lists: fun things + admin things

Hello friends! My very quick little trip to SoCal was lovely. Some notable moments included:

• Seeing A again! Meeting her fiancée K! Eating delicious foods that she made, while catching up on our lives!
• Inadvertently trying a hot yoga class for the first time, which is something that I can now check off my list FOREVER, wow, why do people like it to be 95 degrees while they're practicing yoga?? I mean even bad yoga is still pretty good IMO, but I could do without the feeling of having literally all the moisture in my body sucked out through my skin.
• Engaging in the extremely lesbionic pastimes of watching old Joan Jett concert videos while drinking wine, and then, later, discussing Xena fanfic while hot-tubbing and listening to Janelle Monáe. Yes good.
• Eight-mile walk on the beach and the boardwalk! Getting to commune with the Pacific, the ocean of my heart <3 Light, localized sunburn was worth it for the experience of radiant heat coming from the sky!!!
• Temps that were warm enough comfortably to sit on the beach, chatting about books and watching the feats of daring executed by the surfers and stand-up paddleboarders.
• Was able to stay awake on the plane, which meant some nice reading time (I'm almost finished with My Brilliant Friend).

There was also a real weird interaction with a dude in the bar/Italian restaurant where A and I went for dinner last night... I'd originally encountered this fellow in the parking lot of my hotel, when he motioned frantically to me to stop driving, and when I opened my window to ask why, he pointed to a piece of candy on the ground, and said he didn't want me to run it over. A day and a half later, SAME DUDE came into the bar where we were eating, sat down next to A, and darted weird intense looks at me for a while before interrupting our conversation to ask if I recognized him. "...... No?" I said, so he had to remind me of his gambit with the candy the day before. "......... Oh," I said. "And now you're... here. That's. Interesting." He went on to interrupt our conversation several more times to, among other things, tell us about the pro football players he knew and invite us out to another bar; capping his whole thing by offering us more candy, like something out of a children's PSA about stranger danger. After he finally left, the bartender was like "I wouldn't eat that candy," and I was like "WAYYYY ahead of you, brother."

Upon my return, I've encountered an extremely ill and pathetic greywash (me: "How did you even have time to develop a cough this bad?? I was only gone a day and a half!" her: "I don't knowwwwww") and accomplished a whole bunch of annoying life admin tasks that had been on my list, to wit:

• Unpacked
• Filed and paid my taxes
• Paid off the new credit card I got in Portland in order to get a discount on a dress, and set up autopayments on it form my main checking account
• Paid my half of the April rent
• Renewed my driver license online
• Checked on the status of my car registration tags, which should arrive this coming week
• Went into the various monthly/weekly/biweekly delivery services I use and updated my delivery schedules so I don't get anything I don't want
• I think there were actually more things but now I can't remember them. Still! Pretty respectable.

I'm super glad I decided to take tomorrow off as well; I did miss out on writing time this weekend so I'm hoping to make up for it then. It's good to be home!

I noticed that a number of places that offered hot yoga some years ago have disappeared. It doesn't seem to be popular here!

He was uber creepy. Luckily both times I interacted with him there were plenty of other people around, so I never felt genuinely menaced, and in the second case the bartenders (two burly Irish guys) were obviously paying attention the whole time & ready to step in. But still. Yikes.

I think I would pass out after two minutes of hot yoga... Well done for lasting the whole session! It sounds like a really good trip, Xena fic in a hot tub is ideal.

Thank you! Honestly the most frustrating thing about the whole hot yoga experience is that it wasn't even particularly compelling yoga? Like, if the argument is that the heat is supposed to make you more flexible & able to access more poses, I would have expected us to do something a little more adventurous, but instead it was just sort of a mediocrely-crafted flow in 80% humidity at 95 degrees. Blech.

Anyway, yes, the hot tubbing Xena conversation was much better. :-)

How delightful that all sounds! Except for the hot yoga; why people find anything pleasurable when done at 95˚ is beyond me.

I can get behind, like, lying in the shade of a beach umbrella in 95 degree heat, reading a book and drinking an iced cocktail. But yeah, anything more active than that and I'm out.

But yes, it was a lovely little trip!

I've been seeing hot yoga advertised around here; we're getting American stuff after a slight delay as usual. I think I'll give that one a miss.

Oh man, no, I would not rush out to try it. Although in fairness, for people who for whatever reason wanted to do it I kiiiiiind of understand a little better paying $25 a class in a climate like London than a climate like LA or San Diego where it's ALREADY HOT and if you want "hot yoga" you could, you know, just do yoga... outside.... *throws up hands*
