breathedout: A blonde in a fur, with a topless brunette (ooh la la)
[personal profile] breathedout
Hello, dear creator!

Thanks so much for making me a thing! I'm sure I will love it. Lady/lady smut is one of my fave things, so we're already off to a fabulous start.

I am a bookish, mostly-lesbian, 38-year-old lady living in the East Bay (Northern California). General fictional loves of mine include: formidable yet complex women being formidable and complex together; sex writing that is emotionally nuanced and/or ratchets up the narrative tension more than it resolves it; unreliable narrators; atmospheric settings; lovely turns of phrase; strong narrative voices and weird narrative experiments. Art-wise I love beautiful clothes, gorgeous light, poses that capture a particular dynamic, mood, or tension between or among characters, or which make you wonder what is about to happen. Style-wise a lot of the stuff I read & write is grounded in the 1890s through 1920s, so any Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Expressionist, Cubist, or otherwise Modernist influences are always delightful to me.

If you are a visual artist, I apologize that my wants/do not wants sections and the fandom-specific prompts are more geared toward fic than art. I am a writer and that's kind of the way my brain works. But I've tried to include some elements that would translate to visual art, especially in the "Likes (sexual)" section. And rest assured that I love receiving visual art in these kinds of exchanges; it seems so magical & wonderful to me, I can't even tell you.

Also, I'm aware that a lot of my narrative likes & fandom-specific prompts tend toward the in-depth character study, and that that might require a longer word count than you really want to commit to on this relatively short short time scale. Rest assured that 1,000 words of porn sans deep character insight will be very welcome. The in-depth character dynamics stuff is just where my brain goes, so I've included it in case you do want to go that route.

Likes (general): Navigating difficult relationships and not doing a super great job of it; elements of con artistry or keeping things from one another; growing emotional/sexual attachment which is neither negated by nor negates the baggage characters may have with each other; putting in the work to repair, or even just be present with, damaged relationships; unexpected moments of tenderness that surprise and perhaps dismay the participants; established relationships; asymmetrical three-way relationships, or triangular formations where two people are fucking about a third person; characters who have a lot of history together and are doing their best to navigate that; relationships which are sexual but not necessarily romantic, or which straddle the line between romance and something else (friendship, enemyship, collegialism, etc.) and are thus difficult to accurately define.

Likes (sexual): rough sex; fight sex; D/s and S/M elements that are more spontaneous rather than super ritualized or formalized (see "Do Not Want" section for more detail—note that "spontaneous" doesn't have to mean "poorly negotiated," although if less-than-model kink negotiation is what works best for the story you're telling, please feel free: imperfect communication happens all the time in real life and realistic imperfection is part of what makes porn hot IMO); pain play; spanking & impact play; biting; finger-sucking; clothing porn (I adore clothes and fabric: feel free to dwell on them); improvised restraints, especially using clothing items; fisting; edging; dry-humping/scissoring; anal play (so often neglected in F/F porn!), oral through clothing; knife play (especially in Killing Eve, or Fen-related Magicians pairings).

Do not want (combined): Babies, small children, or pregnancy; animal death or violence/cruelty toward animals; scat; erasure of canonical bisexuality; rape that is passed off by the narrative as consensual sex (exploring problematic consent in a thoughtful way is fine); omegaverse; soulmate AUs. With a partial exception for The Magicians (more detail below), in stories that deal with canonical trauma or grief, I'd prefer that those elements be taken seriously rather than papered over. Since we're talking specifically about M- or E-rated stories here, I'd rather read about sex that's a messy part of the messy relationship negotiation or healing process, than sex that only happens after the characters have completely resolved all their issues and come out the other side. Super ritualized BDSM elements (elaborate scenes with lots of setup; codified rules about how submissives must act/address their dominants, with agreed-upon punishment for infringement of said rules, all-BDSM AUs) don't really do it for me, although less formalized power-exchange or power-struggle definitely do.

Requests

Killing Eve (any):
This show basically drills directly to my id; it's difficult to think of anything about it of which I don't want more. The pairing I most viscerally ship is Eve/Villanelle, but I asked for "any" because honestly there are so many really meaty, intriguing female roles in this show, and so many of the female characters have such interesting dynamics with each other, that I'd love to read an exploration of any of the nominated relationships—or a combination of several of them, if you want to go that way, since there are lots of possibilities for exploration of triangular dynamics.

Speaking of: Carolyn/Villanelle is an idea that hadn't previously occurred to me before seeing it in this tagset, but now I'm super intrigued. Whether this is a pre-canon exploration or an attempt on Villanelle's part to check up on, or glean more information about, Eve via seducing someone with access to her: how would Carolyn react to that kind of attempt? What would they both know about the other's motives going into it, and what would they figure out as the encounter/relationship progressed? We know Carolyn is not only amenable to but actively turned on by liaisons where she thinks/knows that the other person is trying to manipulate her and she is trying in turn to manipulate the other person. Does this affair with Villanelle change Carolyn's perception of Eve? Does it change Villanelle's?

Similarly, the pairings involving Pamela are interesting to me for their triangular possibilities. The canonical Pamela/Villanelle scene is obviously explicitly triangular since Villanelle tells Pamela that she's going to call her Eve, and then she goes and hides, and Pamela is supposed to find her. That acknowledged, what would an Eve/Pamela encounter look like? Does Eve encounter her on the trail of Villanelle, or is it more of a chance meeting? (Or a seemingly chance meeting engineered by Villanelle?) How does Eve find out (or does she find out) about the role-play that Villanelle had Pamela do with her? How does she react to that knowledge? And what is Pamela looking for/getting out of all this?

The Carolyn/Eve and Carolyn/Elena pairings are also rich with possibility, if potentially more straightforward. I love the idea of getting some background on Elena's departure from the team at the end of S1: what did the process look like as her initial heroine-worship of Carolyn cooled? How would it look if an affair were part of that? (Carolyn, by her own admission, tending to love better people who she likes less; Elena, by her own admission, bored in London and feeling neglected.) What happens along Elena's path from "I would do anything to work with her" to "I don't fancy getting killed"? With Carolyn/Eve, we see more on screen about Eve's evolving trust issues with Carolyn, and Carolyn's increasing impatience with Eve's renegade behavior and obsession with Villanelle—yet at the same time, Eve obviously remains in awe of Carolyn both personally and professionally. How might that play out in a sexual context?

The Villanelle/Anna and Villanelle/Nadia pairings are interesting for their potential for a peek into Villanelle's past: what was she like at those two different stages of her development?

And lastly, Eve/Villanelle plays so perfectly into my general "likes" sections above, both sexual and non-sexual, that I don't even feel like there's anything more I need to say, ahahaha. RUN & BE FREE; I will love it. This pairing is particularly prone to clothing-porn-centric art or fic!

The Magicians (Marina/anyone, Margo/anyone, Julia/Kady, Zelda/Sheila, Zelda/Sheila/Alice):

There's so much untapped potential on this show for sexual/romantic relationships between and among women; at least two female characters have been explicitly shown as bisexual but in neither case has that been followed up by much on-screen narrative attention. I'd love to see fic devoted to either or both of them, or a sexual cast added to any of the many not-explicitly-sexual lady/lady relationships that are given narrative attention on screen.

In general, things I enjoy about this show include its absurdist sense of humor; its wide array of female characters who want different things and who are allowed to make mistakes and be just as prickly and difficult as the male characters; and its depictions of queer friendships that may or may not be sexual (or may live in a kind of liminal semi-sexual space). Things I don't particularly enjoy about it include anything to do with shades being removed, replaced, or exchanged; the unexamined colonialism in its treatment of the portal fantasy conceit; the body horror elements; or basically any part of the last few episodes of the final season. (Given that this exchange is focused on female characters, the women will take center stage and this might not really come up, but: in the wake of the S4 finale, it's kind of hard to avoid dealing with Quentin as a character. FWIW, his death can be an exception, if you want, to my general "work through the trauma rather than hand-waving it" preference. IMO the S4 finale was both incredibly irresponsible from a sociopolitical/representation perspective and also just bad, boring writing; feel free to pretend it didn't happen and assume that Quentin is still alive, if you prefer. That said, in all honesty Quentin was never a particular favorite of mine to begin with, so if you want to simply not include him at all, I am totally fine with that too.)

As far as individual characters/pairings: Marina 23 is canonically back(ish) with the Timeline 40 version of her Timeline 23 girlfriend, although the show was cagey about who said girlfriend might be. I've written a couple of explorations of that particular narrative tease, and if you'd like to write another one I'm open to pretty much any possibility for the "future wife"'s identity, including ones not nominated for this fest. Marina happens to be one of my favorite Magicians characters in any case: I love her frank, amoral opportunism; her ability to hold grudges until she decides it's no longer practical; and her potential to come around to being a critic of the legitimately pretty fucked-up Brakebills system.

Margo is another character who's implied to be canonically bi but it's never developed, and she's coincidentally also a character I adore; I'd love more exploration of a sexual relationship between her and whatever lady you prefer. I feel like the writers really missed an opportunity to develop a substantive relationship between Margo and Fen in S4, especially as Margo has essentially stumbled & bullshitted her way into, and then become invested in, ruling over a kingdom in which Fen actually grew up and has a more substantive lived connection. I kept wishing the show would take Fen and her relationship to Fillory more seriously (and also that they would be more critical of the idea that the best people to rule Fillory were a bunch of maladjusted grad students from Earth who'd never been there before) and a story where Margo comes to value Fen as a ruler or co-ruler could fit that bill. All that said, if you want to pair Margo with another lady of The Magicians, be my guest.

(Sadly I don't think it's canonically possible for Margo to be Marina's secret girlfriend, but hey friend, PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG.)

The Julia/Kady relationship at this point is a great example of my narrative kink for people who have a lot of history together, some of it traumatic or detrimental to trust, and who now have to navigate that baggage and potentially rebuild something between themselves—the shape of which they're not really sure of until after the fact. Assume whatever you'd like about whether they were sexually involved back before Julia's betrayal; I can imagine very interesting stories either way as they move around in & beyond where S4 takes them. As Julia's rape, pregnancy, and abortion were big plot pointsin her shared plot arc with Kady, feel free to refer to them/deal with the aftermath of them, but I'd prefer no stories actually set during the time when she was pregnant.

Lastly, S4 leaves us on the verge of Zelda, Sheila, and Alice all employed by the Library, with Alice coming on as Zelda and Sheila's boss. Those are some very interesting and complex workplace dynamics, especially considering Zelda's vastly superior levels of Library (and life) experience as compared to Alice, Alice's nascent/abortive friendship with Sheila in Modesto, and Alice's prickly personality in general. I'm VERY curious about a glimpse into how this all plays out in the workplace politics of the Library, and some ill-advised after-hours shenanigans, either between Zelda and Sheila (possibly about Alice; mildly ill-advised) or between Zelda, Sheila, and Alice (extremely ill-advised), would be a fun addition to that fictional stew. As an aside, I find Zelda and all her prissy little mannerisms just like. Insanely hot. In general. Whew.

The Good Place (any):

This is another show where the potential for F/F relationships is canonically RIGHT THERE, but never really explored. I ship Eleanor/Tahani pretty hard, and I also ADORE the hints of Eleanor/Simone that we get in S3. (As you may be able to tell between this & the Killing Eve section, Kirby Howell-Baptiste really does it for me.) But I also just love the wackily desperate "Anything goes!" quality set up by the conceit of this show. There's so much potential for off-the-wall experimentation, between the hundreds of reboots in S1 and the end-of-S3 setup which has them back in their original setting but with the roles and levels of knowledge mixed up. I think this canon lends itself really wonderfully to crack pairings, the more outlandish the better: because in 800+ reboots surely just about everything must have happened once, and the farce involved in getting there is a lot of the fun. I'd be delighted to discover how, for example, Eleanor, Mindy St. Clair, Vicky, and Tahani might all end up in bed together. If you want to go the crack pairing (or threesome, or sixsome, or whatever) route, I am 100% behind you.

For the individual pairings I'm into on their own account: Eleanor is so frankly canonically bisexual that I'd really like to see her capacity to be into women explored with the same seriousness that her capacity to be into men is. Post-S3, if a newly-wiped Chidi is, for example, in love with Simone, with no idea about the reboots or his history with Eleanor, then Eleanor might turn to Tahani for help both running the neighborhood and getting over her broken heart. Or, she might end up having drunken disaster sex with Simone out of complex and hard-to-parse jealousy. OR, as part of trying to steer the humans toward the path of righteousness, she and Simone might become friends like she and Michael became friends the first time around, and a relationship might develop that way.

Tahani is a tough one for me because for a character on a comedy show, she gives me lots of super sad feelings. She's plainly so accustomed to setting all her life goals based on other peoples' approval that she has little to no idea of what she actually wants or enjoys, or what gives her pleasure. In both S2 & S3, I really wanted the writers to give her an arc where she grapples meaningfully with this, and finds a way to pursue her own desires. But although they've given her multiple realizations that panting after other people's approval is counterproductive, they haven't actually developed a path for her to discover what she DOES want. (And honestly, the Tahani storylines have been thin overall.) Any Tahani-centric stories that explore this, whoever you want to pair her with, I'm pretty much guaranteed to love.

Lastly, I also have a soft spot for demon-POV "behind the scenes" stories in this fandom, and if you wanted to write two or more of the lady demons gettin' it on after a hard day of human-torture, I'd be super into that. Vicky in particular is one of my favorite characters in this canon, and she canonically agrees with me that she is way under-used!

Ocean's 8 (any):

There are honestly too many possible F/F pairings and groupings in this film to even outline them all. I, like seemingly every lesbian who watched it, imprinted onto Cate Blanchett's Lou Miller—the swagger! the facial expressions! the SUITS!—and would be happy to see an exploration of a relationship between her and literally any other member of this ensemble cast. On a meta level, my other huge celebrity crush in this film is Rihanna, so if you want to go the "battle of the cool: who will crack first??" route with Lou and Nine Ball, I'd be into it. (I would also be into the more opposites-attract pairing of Daphne/Nine Ball, or the too-cool-for-school-character-shows-newly-independent-character-a-night-on-the-town pairing of Nine Ball/Amita.) Lou's long-time, conflicted relationship with Debbie plays to my "characters with a long history with each other navigate their baggage, sometimes not very well" kink, so I'd be excited for that as well. I THOROUGHLY enjoy the trainwreck that is Helena Bonham-Carter's Rose Weil (in fact just thinking about her makes me giggle as I type this), and would be very on board for anything to do with her and Lou. Pretty much, anything you want to do with Lou or with Nine Ball: I'm there.

In glancing at the cut text I saw "Zelda/Sheila" and my immediate response was "oh, hbbo ships my girl! Who's Zelda I wanna know all about this--no wait this is not my Sheila this is some other Sheila." Then, less than a second later, I saw "Zelda/Sheila/Alice" and had the exact same thought.

Maybe this is a sign that I should go back to working on my novel...?

Nah, can't be.

Hilariously enough, I was having a very comparable form of Zelda confusion kind of a lot earlier in the year. (There aren't usually two of those in any given zeitgeist!)

I glanced at this during a work break and saw the following:

scat; erasure of canonical bisexuality

Those two things are on my "do not want" list, also. :P

(Someday I need to make a post of my favorite positive and negative tag juxtapositions. I think the pair above would be somewhere in the top 10.)

I've never done this before, but....I love this letter.

Tahani is a tough one for me because for a character on a comedy show, she gives me lots of super sad feelings.

Yes, yes. I'm not sure where I am in the show - end of S2 maybe? But she and Jason are played for laughs mostly, and yet...there's more there!
