Help me cast some porn?

I have a plot bunny (for a certain definition of "plot") which originally arose in my brain out of meta pettiness, but which I've become attached to in its own right, maybe enough to actually write it someday.

However, I need help with the casting. As such, taking suggestions:

What are your favorite fannish F/M pairings to write/read/imagine with a fem!domme/male!sub dynamic?

I could write it as original fiction, but since the original impetus came out of commentary on fannish norms, I'd prefer it to be fanfic.

(If it's useful, other AO3 tags likely to appear on this story: Predicament Bondage, Humiliation Kink, Clothing Disparity. Ideally it would take place in a world modern enough to contain smartphones.)

Well. Ahahaha. I have not been watching Wynnona Earp, but weirdly, you, have unearthed an extremely longstanding and specific kink of mine for submissive(/queer) Doc Holliday. (Like. Very longstanding. I believe it dates from my first viewing of Tombstone (1993), in which Holliday is played by a tubercular Val Kilmer.) Soooooooo YOU INTEREST ME STRANGELY, is what I'm saying. I did not realize this was a potential dynamic Wynnona Earp could offer me. Maybe I will have to check it out!

Oh I do, do I? I didn't expect that!

I've watched the first two seasons of WE (out of three) and have the third as something to do on Saturday night when I'm no longer reading PhD theses about the layout and historial usage of famous buildings, as My Art appears to have led me to do on this occasion. WE is in theory so not for those of us who do that kind of thing. And yet.

I actually don't know anything about the traditional characterisation of Doc Holliday; I guess there's more of him in US culture, which would make sense. But this one is deeply and strangely endearing, in the kind of way that makes one want to look after him by tying him up and torturing him. At which Wynonna would clearly be adept.

(If you do watch the show, the canon f/f will possibly make your teeth bleed sugar, which I know is not your kink. But there is a wide variety of both pretty and credible ladies.)

I know; it's unexpected! I feel like Kilmer's Holliday hit me at a time before I'd really identified many of what would become my kinks, and it snuck up on them in what turned out to be a pretty formative way.

Duly noted re: the canon f/f; sadly a common pitfall. But yay for lots of ladies!

Yes! Holliday was a historical person, and historically a close friend of Wyatt Earp; he was a tubercular gambler who moved from Georgia to Arizona in hopes that the desert climate would cure his TB, & then got involved in the famous shootout at the OK Corral. In mythmaking of the American West he's usually portrayed as one of those figures who straddle the right & wrong sides of the law, you know—the degenerate gambler, snappy dresser and semi-casual killer, who spends most of his time drinking, wisecracking, hanging out with/patronizing sex workers, and getting into gunfights over card games. He's often cast as the morally grey, YOLO-and-dying-anyway foil to Earp's unbending lawfulness: close enough to the bad guys to think like them & fight dirty like them in ways that Earp's not, but which are (these depictions argue) necessary to bringing them down. There's often a gloss of erudition about him, too, which combined with the fashion-forwardness & affinity for the demi-monde adds up to a lot of queer coding.

Apparently this is largely nonsense, historically (for example: Holliday, before leaving Georgia, was a dentist; and his second career of gambling was a perfectly reputable profession in those days). And of course the whole glamorization of ~bringing law to the Wild West~ is intensely politically fucked-up. But I admit that I do love the Doc Holliday mythos.

I've managed to watch three season of Wynonna Earp and read a lot of fic without ever realising ANY OF IT was based in history, or at least the wider mythos of the West. It casts the show into a slight different light. The Doc Holliday mythos as you describe it is captured pretty well by the show, and he's a very appealing character in a lot of ways -- also I feel like the show hasn't actively tried to queer-code him at all, and yet -- he still come across as kind of queer? Which is... interesting. Queer-coding in the source material still coming through in modern portrayals, even when those portrayals contain a lot of queer characters.

Oh that is interesting! It's like queercoding once removed.

In fairness I'm not actually sure to what extent my formative Doc Holliday was even supposed to be queercoded & to what extent I, hungry baby queer in search of fictional models, latched onto him on my own initiative. But I feel like that equation of very articulate, physically not very hardy but mentally sharper than most, a flair for fashion, morally ambiguous, and at home in the demimonde if often meant to add up to some kind of queerness.

Anyway I'm now very interested in Wynnona Earp's take on him!

Wynonna Earp is so deeply indebted to Buffy, imo, that a lot of characters come across as versions of Buffy characters? So Doc Holliday, for me, pings really strongly as Spike -- but possibly Spike kiiind of slots into the queer-coding you're describing -- I feel like the articulate / mentally sharp / flair for fashion / morally ambiguous thing comes up a lot in stories, and we queers immediately latch onto it.
